Information and Resources on Voting:

1. Voter Eligibility Requirements from Dallas County Elections:
You may register to vote if you fulfill all of the following requirements:
  • Are a United States citizen;
  • Are a resident of Dallas County;
  • Are at least 17 years, 10 months of age (To vote, you must be 18).
  • Have not been declared totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction;
  • Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote.

Your application to register goes through a review process (see infographic below). Common mistakes are an invalid address, address was left blank, and the ID information was missing. If your application is rejected, you will be notified in a letter through the post office from county elections on how to fix your application. This will add time to getting your application approved before the October 7 deadline to vote in November 2024.

3. Texas organizations and state/county election websites with voter information:

The League of Women Voters of Dallas has voter registration programs at the campus locations of Dallas College and local leagues across the state have registration programs.

March to the Polls has dedicated registration programs in eight school districts in North Texas.

4. Below is a view of the process steps that support a new voter registration application in Texas.

1. After your application is submitted, go to the county elections website (in about a week) to see if your registration was accepted. If you are not found, call the local county elections office on the status of your application and if you need to fix it.

2. If you submitted a voter application and did not check your status before voting, the application may not have gone through the process to acceptance. If the election clerk tells you that you are not a registered voter in the voter database, you can vote a provisional ballot. Click here for details.

When a Texan applies to vote you have to see it through and check the status.

It's really important to ensure you are registered.
